"A Sense of Joy’ designed by Satoshi Kondo was presented by Issey Miyake as his spring summer 2020 collection at the Le Cent Quatre in Paris. The ready-to-wear collection beams of colour and an instant urge to dance. It is an emphasis of the cheer that people find in clothes and dressing up. The show, transformed into chapters began with ensembles of greyish tones, progressively becoming more beautiful with bold and bright colours.
The Looks : The summery dresses of brighter hues and fluid shapes bounced up and down as did the models thanks to signature Miyake springiness. The garments seen in motion seemed fundamental yet playful.
Why It Matters Now : “I am convinced that there is a need to maintain a sense of joy in what we do. We often forget about the power of clothes, which is precisely this: to instil a sense of joy in people, to give a little happiness.” Kondo told an interviewer. His collection brought palpable joy to the room with this imaginative show.
